Timacuan Golf Club Names New Superintendent
Jacksonville native Brandon Sims has been named Head Golf Course Superintendent at one of the Orlando area's most popular courses, Timacuan Golf Club.
Sims is a veteran in the golf course maintenance industry, having started his career as an eager-to-learn 16-year-old at Hilton Golf Resort in Phoenix, AZ. After moving back to Florida in 1999, he attended Lake City Community College for a golf course operations degree.
While in college Sims worked at Timuquana Country Club and later Fiddlers Green Golf Club. After graduation he moved his family to Central Florida and took a job at Heathrow Country Club. In 2004 Sims was named Head Golf Course Superintendent at Heathrow, where he worked until 2011. Last year he accepted a dual superintendent job with The Golf Group, overseeing maintenance operations at Deer Run and Casselberry golf clubs.
Sims started his new post at Timacuan in Lake Mary Monday. "I am looking forward to becoming an integral part of the management team at Timacuan," said Sims. "Our goal is to make Timacuan one of Florida's premier golf courses."
Timacuan's new General Manager Don Beardsley is thrilled to have added to his staff someone of Sims' experience and enthusiasm.
"I am very aware of Brandon's work and reputation in the area," said Beardsley. "We are fortunate to have added someone of Brandon's caliber to our team. I am certain he will help us reach our goal of returning Timacuan to its deserved standing at the top of the list of golf experiences in the Orlando area."
Timacuan has hosted several tournaments of national scope already in 2012. Those events include the $10,000 Timacuan Scramble, local qualifier for the U.S. Open, the NGA Tour with several Nationwide Tour players, the Ladies Suncoast Tour, the Hurricane Tour junior tournament with over 100 top players from across the world, The Golf Channel Amateur Tour, the Moonlight Mini Tour and the U.S. Kids Tour.
