The Orlando Magic Championship for Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation is scheduled for September 17, 2010 at Reunion Resort in Orlando, FL. The event is expected to have more than 200 golf participants, along with one-of-a-kind Magic auction items and an awards luncheon.
Ten children ages 8-16 representing organizations who received grants from the Orlando Magic Youth Fund (Orlando Magic Youth Foundation- McCormick Foundation Fund) will be on-site from 7-8:30 a.m. They will assist the golfers in registration and with the Wyndham Vacation Ownership’s Warm-up Contest. OMYF beneficiaries represented at the course will include: A Gift for Music, Florida Hospital for Children, The Gift of Swimming, The Salvation Army, AMI Kids, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida, Jewish Family Services and Orlando Repertory Theatre.
The ANNIKA Academy has announced a "Play Golf with Annika" video contest. Fans can submit a one-minute video to explain why they are the ideal playing partner for Annika Sorenstam. The winner will have the opportunity to play nine holes with Annika at Reunion Resort, home of her golf and fitness school in Orlando, FL.
Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 8, fans can enter to win by visiting www.theannikaacademy.com, creating a video within the guidelines, uploading their video to a third party social media web site and returning to the ANNIKA Academy website to complete the Contest entry form and submit the video link. Submissions are due by Oct. 14. A purchase is not required to participate in the Contest, but entry is limited to persons 18 or older who are legal residents of the U.S. or Canada (except Québec). Golf Channel's popular Big Break reality series will return for its 14th season this fall, featuring 10 episodes shot on two world-class Dominican Republic golf courses that have received awards and accolades from golf experts the world over. Big Break Dominican Republic will premiere Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. ET. Filmed on location in June at the world-famous Casa de Campo Resort, the series will showcase why the island has been deemed by top travel and golf publications as a preeminent destination for golf.
Waldorf Astoria Golf Club in Orlando will host the official East Coast qualifying event for the prestigious American Express Celebrity Golf Invitational, on Sept. 25, 2010. This new event, held at the Rees Jones-designed Waldorf Astoria Golf Club in Orlando, will give participants an opportunity to compete for a chance to play in the popular California celebrity invitational, presented by Hilton Worldwide.
Orlando golf course Grand Cypress Resort will host the 2010 season ending LPGA Tour Championship. The $1.5 million event will be played Dec. 2-5 on the resort's North and South nines.
The 2009 LPGA Tour Championship was played in the Greater Houston area, but ran into sponsor trouble before the event was played. A 2010 title sponsor has not been finalized, but talks continue with potential title sponsors. An announcement on a title sponsor is expected in the coming weeks.
Shingle Creek Golf Club has announced the inaugural ESPN/Shingle Creek Golf Tour.
The first event is a Pro-Am style scramble golf tournament. Amateurs will play a scramble and will have a PGA member play along as their partner. The professional will play his own ball and play for a professional purse in addition of being able to help his team with his score if it is better than his amateur team on any hole.
